Nicholls Steyn & Associates is an established world specialist in all areas of sport security, with our directors having managed the protection of international sports teams visiting South Africa since 1991. Since 1999, NSA has also been involved in consulting to the organising bodies of major sporting events and have operated in the capacity of Tournament Director of Security as well as consultants to such directors of security.
NSA’s sporting security expertise has extended to providing security support for major sponsor at the Athens Olympic Games in 2004 and the London Olympic Games in 2012. Advice has also been given on security-related issues for the 2008 Summer Olympicsin Beijing, China as well as the 2010 Winter Olympic Games in Vancouver, Canada, where NSA led a team of operatives to secure hospitality venues for a US-based client.
As a consultant to Cricket South Africa, NSA is involved in all of the protection and security arrangements for cricket teams and cricket officials visiting South Africa, as well as for South African national cricket teams touring overseas. To date, we have participated in the SA cricket team’s tours to Pakistan, India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe and provided cover to all inbound international touring teams to SA. We are proud to have one of our top operatives in India with the Proteas on their ICC Cricket World Cup 2011 campaign.
Having headed up security arrangements for international cricket teams in South Africa since 2002 NSA is considered to be the most experienced international cricket security specialist. NSA have provided support to the South African and England team tours to Pakistan, Sri Lanka and India; and the ICC Cricket World Cup 2007 and has also managed security for the ICC Champions Trophy since 2006 (India) and the ICC Champions Trophy 2008 (Pakistan) and it’s SA-hosted version in 2009. They continue to manage the all editions of the highly successful Indian Premier League and Champions League Twenty20.
NSA have been appointed by the Swiss-based International Hockey to become their safety and security consultants. The FIH is the global controlling body for field-hockey and the main task is to provide the FIH with an independent review of safety and security planning by their member federations and the various national bodies running hockey in their member countries.
Nicholls Steyn & Associates has coordinated the protection arrangements for the South African national soccer team, Bafana Bafana, and has been involved in the coordination and planning of several major events, including the African Cup of Nations 1996, the Vodacom Challenge 2007 to 2011 (a local tournament involving top local and English clubs, including Kaizer Chiefs, Orlando Pirates, Tottenham Hotspurs and Manchester United). NSA has also managed security arrangements for the NBA’s ‘Basketball Without Borders’ tours of South Africa since 2006.
NSA also provided a range of security services to several of FIFA’s global partners during the 2009 Confederations Cup football tournament in South Africa and are proud that this continued and grew into the 2010 FIFA World Cup on home soil where we coordinated and managed all NSA operations in support of three out of six of FIFA’s commercial partners.
